Our story has been one heck of a journey. Over 40 years ago, Alpine Sausage started as a Scandinavian company and we proudly continue that tradition today with Scandinavian imported goods and authentic in-house prepared foods that we make from original recipes, some over 100 years old. Our Viking roots hold us strong, and our family-run business is grateful to the Scandinavian communities in Calgary that have included us in their celebrations and on their dinner tables for generations – it is truly an honour.

Over fifteen years ago, my health took a nose-dive and I developed GI issues that took me into the dark, murky waters of the dreaded auto-immune world. I was so sick that I was losing 8 pounds a week and my health was in a complete free-fall. I spent $28,000 and hundreds of hours reading medical abstracts trying to get better. I saw every kind of doctor, GI specialist, naturopath, homeopath, traditional Chinese medicine practitioner and chiropractor, then finally found a solution through the SCD Diet. Truly a Godsend! The problem was trying to find foods that I could eat that went well beyond just being gluten-free and didn’t contain sugars, soy, starches, fillers, binders, etc. It just didn’t exist.

Thankfully, my brother Brett (our Meat Ninja) had these crazy culinary skills and was able to make me foods that I could eat safely. It was at that point that Alpine Sausage expanded its product line to focus on pure foods that people like me can eat. Since then, we have developed over 200 products, and others with health issues have sought us out and have come to trust and rely on our products. So, with every dark cloud there is a silver-lining. We’re so happy to be able to be part of their journey towards better health!

We work with a lot of health professionals, who refer their clients that are on restricted diets to us. We speak your language, and we get you! We know all about nightshades, lectins, low-salt, GAPS diet, AIP Diet, SCD Diet, FODMAP, Paleo, Gluten-free, Dairy-free, Nut-free, Soy-free, Carnivore, Keto, SIBO and Candida Diet. There are no “dumb” questions and we are completely comfortable having what others may consider embarrassing conversations – because we are dealing with the same issues ourselves!

If you haven’t had a chance to try any of our products yet, I look forward to sharing with you the fantastic flavours of Alpine!

Cheers,

Janeen Norman
